It was an incredible week to start the season. So much has happened, and the matches were pretty good. I was following Doha religiously and the matches were unbelievable. Monfils/Rafa, Murray/Fed....
And of course the most interesting part of the week was Stepanek's shirt!! haha... and then break-dancing on court after he beat Verdasco?!?! come on!!! Priceless...
I've been on a blogging spree all week.... can't wait till Melbourne starts...
Oh and about the prize money in Doha.... welcome to the Gulf man!! Credit crunch or not, these people can still throw a party.
Cheers!

Though Nalbandian has been uneven the past few years, I don't bet against him in the Cup. Kinda like McEnroe during his run.

marc, here is some information on the ATP board. it is current, so I do not know who it was when he was hired. but these are the people in charge of hiring the next CEO.

The ATP Board includes Etienne de Villiers along with tournament representatives, Željko Franulović, Charlie Pasarell and Graham Pearce. It also includes three player representatives with two-year terms, Ivan Ljubičić as the European representative (until the end of 2009 term), David Edges as the International representative and Justin Gimelstob as the Americas representative. The player representatives are elected by the ATP Player Council.

The 10-member ATP Player Council delivers advisory decisions to the Board of Directors, which has the power to accept or reject the Council's suggestions. The Council consists of four players who are ranked within top 50 in singles (Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and a vacancy), two players who are ranked between 51 and 100 in singles (Peter Luczak and Michael Berrer), two top 100 players in doubles (Yves Allegro and Eric Butorac) and two at-large members (David Martin and Martín García).

butorac is a former d3 player. nice to see.

Tennis is hardly the 1st sport to go looking for a commissioner in the ranks of TV execs. This time worked about as well as most of the others, which is to say:
craptacularly.

gilles simon got in after nadal withdrew.

most surprising players who didn't make would have to be james blake. he had a poor fall which hurt him badly. also i didn't quite expect him to make but at least challenge for a spot was richard gasquet. instead he finished 24th. he is way too talented to be 24th.
